The McCollums of Cherry Valley, New York
John McCollum (b. 1721) emigrated from Scotland to America with his family and was in Cherry Valley, NY prior to the American Revolution. His son James (b. c 1743 in Scotland) m. Sarah Campbell (dau. of James) c 1772 in NY. They had two children. Sarah died c 1777. James joined the Loyalist cause and was with the King's Rangers until the end of the war in 1783. He returned to NY, re-married (Eunice Fench), had five more children and then the family emigrated to Canada in 1792. James was recognized as a United Empire Loyalist for his war service and granted land near Smithville in the Niagara area. He had 6 more children born in Canada. His ancestors use 3 name spellings - McCollum, McCollom, McCallum. He is my g-g-g-grandfather. I would like to make contact with anyone associated with this family and am willing to share information.

The McColloms of Cherry Valley
I was very interested to read the comment on this branch of the McColloms. I have only relatively recently started to explore my family history, and pursuit of the paternal line was somewhat hampered until I appreciated that my surname of MacCallum had in fact migrated from McCollom via McCallum during the 1800s. Having cleared this hurdle I have now established (with a fair degree of certainty I hope!) that I am directly connected to James McCollom, through his eldest son Joseph, from his second marriage to Eunice French. Bruce, I would be more than happy to share information with you, or anyone else connected with this family.
