George A. Malcolm

George A. Malcolm was the first Fairfax County, Virginia Sheriff killed in the line of duty on April 7, 1905. George Malcolm (b 1880) was 24 years old and was a deputy sheriff for only 11 months when he tried to arrest an Italian immigrant. The research indicates that “During the arrest, the man pulled out a handgun and shot Deputy Malcolm five times, hitting him in the abdomen, hip, and hand.” Deputy Malcolm was taken to the Emergency Hospital in Washington DC, where he died a day later. He is buried at Pohick Church, Lorton, Virginia.One hundred years later, his name was added to the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial in Washington DC.
